Boxmeer has more to offer then meets the eye

Boxmeer is a small town with lots of industry. But it is not just suited for business trips, Boxmeer also has a lot of relaxation to offer. How about the beautiful town centre and its many shops? There are a number of interesting sites to see as well.

Sites
The county of Boxmeer has a number of interesting museums and sites.

You can visit Boxmeer castle, which houses a museum which introduces you to the history of the castle itself and to Boxmeer from the time of the Romans until the present day.

The Catholic church of Boxmeer was made a Basilica by the Vatican on 25 June 2000, to commemorate the Miracle of the Holy Blood of the year 1400 A.D. In the crypt are the fundaments of earlier churches, the oldest one dating from before 1300 A.D. The church also contains the tomb of count Oswald van den Bergh (1673-1712) and his wife Maria Leopoldina Catharrina, countess of Rietberg (died 1718). The oak choir and organ (1677) are remnants of the previous church.

A must-see is the Liberty Parc (National War and Resistance Museum) at Overloon. This museum gives you an impression of what life looked like during German occupation (1940-1945), but also houses a large collection of war materials, like tanks and artillery.

A surprising site can be found near the river Meuse in Overloon. The fascinating Zoo Parc and botanical gardens are home to many exotic animals and plants.

Sports
Of course Boxmeer has a lot to offer to the active visitor. Among other things there are tennis and squash courts, fitness centres and a swimming pool.
Just across the river Meuse, boasts an 18 hole golf course, which also has a 9 hole practice course and a 9 hole pitch and putt course.
We will be happy to inform you about the possibilities or make reservations for you.

Bicycle and hiking trails
Boxmeer is surrounded by a gorgeous countryside including the famous Maasheggen (Meuse hedges): hawnthorn trees woven together that go back to Roman times and were mentioned by Julius Caesar. In the nature reserve Maasheggen near Groeningen you can see how the hedges form an impenetrable separation wall. But they also are a remarkable ecosystem with rare plants and animals.

Around Boxmeer there are some lovely bicycle trails for trained and less trained cyclists that lead through different areas. If you really want to get to know Boxmeer county, the Eleven Villages trail is a must. This will lead you through all the villages in the county. The trail has been laid out so it can be followed partly too, which is a good thing because in most villages you will want to get off your bike and enjoy the view at a bench or an outdoor café.

Of course you can also scout Boxmeer county on foot, horseback or skates. Many trails pass by sites that you cannot reach by car. To make things even easier there is a special shuttle boat that shuttles cyclists across the river Meuse. Ask us for more information on the boat.

There is no doubt that Boxmeer and its surroundings will leave an unforgettable impression with you.
